General
The New Culture Festival is dedicated to contemporary youth and the world that has been formed during the first decade of the 21st century. Due to the rapid development of digital technologies and their increased availability in the 2000s, revolutionary changes happened in the ways of production and distribution of music, cinema, animation, media art, etc. A new decentralized cultural space emerged, and every human is its creator and consumer simultaneously. The development of technologies allowed to reduce the distance between the Artist and the Viewer (Listener); besides, thanks to this tendency, the diffusion of subcultures into the mainstream essentially accelerated. The growth of technologies did not only change the content of culture, but also led to the formation of new ways of distribution, critical analysis, presentation of the final product, etc.
The main goal of the New Culture Festival is to figure out how and why the process of the technical improvement influenced the development of culture. Besides, the organizers also set other goals:
humanitarian and educational goal: show everyone that all have equal opportunities in the new cultural space, teach how to get oriented in it and do something himself or herself;
research goal: an attempt to systematize chaotic cultural phenomena, place them in the historical context, grasp “the spirit of time” and thus predict a possible development of culture in the future.
cultural goal: legitimize the newest phenomena in culture and art that still often don't even have names, and attract public attention to them.
The Festival plans to embrace all directions in culture – from sports to street art, including music, cinema, design, fashion, theater, etc.
It is important to note that the Festival’s organizers by no means declare the idea of technological determinacy as the only way of creative implementation. It is only one of many paths in the great maze of contemporary culture.
